OMAHA, Nebraska (Nov. 1, 2022) – Scoular’s in-house legal department has achieved Mansfield Certification through its work on the Mansfield Rule: Legal Department Edition (“MRLD”) 2.0, the company announced Tuesday.
Through Diversity Lab’s rigorous process, Scoular’s legal department took intentional actions to boost and sustain the diversity of its legal department leadership and outside counsel teams, and pledged to continue this important work year over year.
The certification achieved by Scoular is called Mansfield Rule: Legal Department Edition 2.0 Certification Plus. It is sponsored by Diversity Lab, an incubator for innovation ideas and solutions that boost diversity and inclusion in law.
Certification Plus is achieved by legal departments that not only took deliberate steps to expand the pool of talent considered for leadership positions within their organization, but also achieved diverse representation in key leadership positions during this past year. It also requires legal departments to consider at least 50 percent underrepresented lawyers for leadership roles, promotions, development opportunities, outside counsel leadership, and more.
Diversity Lab announced today the set of legal departments achieving Mansfield status, which included Scoular, along with 40-plus other companies like McDonald’s, Ford, Pfizer, and US Foods.
“I know that by having a diverse internal team, and diverse outside counsel partners, we bring better and more innovative solutions to Scoular,” said Megan Belcher, Scoular’s Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer. “The Mansfield Certification program provided our legal team with a structured and approachable way to evaluate and analyze our outside counsel spend and internal lawyer hiring in a way that yielded significant increase in lawyer diversity. This program offered a framework for turning Scoular’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal industry into actionable and tangible outcomes.”
Scoular’s Mansfield Certification work was led by Jennifer Deitloff, Scoular’s Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Associate General Counsel, as well as Jordan Hasan, Associate General Counsel, in partnership with the entirety of Scoular’s legal team.
