Since our founding in 1892, we’ve been defining what’s possible in agribusiness supply chains for customers and partners around the world.

We’ve grown to $8 billion in sales by providing reliable and diverse supply chain solutions for end users and suppliers of grain, food ingredients, animal feed ingredients and pet food ingredients, with our networks and innovations in international trade and transportation.

Our more than 1,400 employees operate from over 100 offices, grain elevators and processing facilities in North America and Asia. No matter where we work, everyone at Scoular is committed to innovation and integrity in the business of buying, selling, storing, handling, processing and transporting grain and ingredients.

2023

Sustainability solutions tested at Missouri facility

Housed at Scoular’s state-of-the-art grain handling facility in Adrian, Missouri, our new sustainability hub tests and develops sustainability practices.

2023

Acquisition of frozen fish processing facility

Our newly acquired facility in Burlington, Washington, upcycles fish trimmings by processing them into frozen fish ingredients for pet food manufacturers.

2023

Investment in oilseed crush facility

Scoular begins converting a facility in Goodland, Kansas, into a oilseed crush plant for soybeans and canola, giving Kansas and Oklahoma farmers access to the growing renewable fuels market.

2022

Joint venture opens fishmeal facility in Oregon

Our fishmeal processing facility in the Pacific Northwest is the first of its kind to open in North America in at least 25 years, supporting fish oil and fishmeal production for our Encompass™ brand.

2022

Producer Origination Team established

A new team of Scoular experts focuses on innovative solutions and marketing tools that address today’s challenges and opportunities for farming communities.

Major investments in Grain and Feed

Through seven grain and feed facility acquisitions and three major upgrade investments, Scoular adds 24.5 million bushels in capacity, new rail access and anchor locations in the Southeast and Midwest.

Marine sustainability program launches

Our Encompass sustainability program, among the most comprehensive in the industry, incentivizes long-term marine sustainability practices, traceability and transparency.

New global headquarters opens in Omaha

Experiencing significant growth and an increasing number of employees over the past five years, we created a modern workspace to encourage collaboration and accommodate future expansion.

First annual sustainability report published

Our sustainability report provides initial progress on our five sustainability pillars, our commitments, and the goals we’re working to achieve by 2025.

Emerge™, a first-of-its-kind barley protein concentrate

We announce Emerge, a traceable and non-GMO barley protein source, and open a new production facility in Jerome, Idaho, to help meet the growing demand for plant-based, sustainable ingredients in pet food and aquafeed. 

2020

Roger™ is launched

Several major agricultural companies join forces with Scoular to launch Roger, LLC, an independent technology company that provides modern digital tools for shippers and carriers in the dry bulk truck freight industry.

2019

Diversity & Inclusion Council established

We launch our strategic focus on Diversity & Inclusion which will include a newly created Chief Diversity Officer to lead the efforts. Scoular Women Influencing Culture (SWIC) becomes our first-ever employee resource group.

Increased strategic focus in Asia-Pacific

With new leadership in Asia-Pacific, we announce our plans to accelerate our investments in this important geography, as well as provide enhanced focus and service for our customers in the region.

Petsource is born

The capabilities in the pet food ingredients supply chain grow significantly with the founding of Petsource by Scoular™, an indirect, wholly owned and independently operated freeze-dried pet food ingredient manufacturing subsidiary.

2016

Illinois facility grows

Our Andres, Illinois, facility boosts operations with the addition of a state-of-the-art non-GMO cleaning plant, on-site grain lab to test purity, and a protein, oil, fiber, sugar and semi-automated bagging line, among other features.

2016

Present-day CEO is hired

Chief Executive Officer Paul Maass joins for a new chapter of success. Since he was hired, Paul continues to add expertise and industry experience to our leadership team.

2015

Global capabilities expand

Through acquisition, we offer new capabilities as a global merchandiser and process for special crops, pulses and associated specialty food ingredients. We also are named Shipper of the Year by the Virginia Port Authority.

2012

Modern-day President & Chairman of the Board elected

David Faith is elected as Scoular’s President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. 

2011

Success is recognized

Forbes Magazine names us to its list of Largest Private Companies, jumping in rank from 105th in 2010 to 63rd in 2011. Since then, we remain in the top 100 ranking, moving slightly up or down depending on the year.

2005

Enter river transportation and renewable fuels

We purchase our first river terminal and enter the renewable fuels market as an investor, lead developer and service provider.

1998

New business units

Following the acquisition of the trading businesses of International Proteins Corporation of St. Paul, Minnesota, we begin trading food and pet food ingredients.

1994

Early clean label solutions

We begin trading identity-preserved (IP) grain and soybeans and receive our organic certification.

1990

Entering the feed market

For the first time, we start marketing feed ingredients and byproducts.

1987

Business priorities shift

Reorganization initiates a major corporate shift away from grain warehousing to merchandising and distribution.

1983

The Scoular Foundation established

Driven by our founders’ commitment to support the communities where our employees and customers live and work, The Scoular Foundation is established.

1967-1985

Elevator numbers go up

After acquiring several terminal and country elevators, we increase our footprint to 20 elevators by 1975, 38 by 1980 and 72 locations in eight states by 1985.

1967

Modern-day founders acquire Scoular

A group of grain industry executives headed by Marshall Faith, Scoular’s former CEO and Chairman (and now Chairman Emeritus), buys Scoular Grain & Lumber Company.

Our story begins
