Since our founding in 1892, we’ve been defining what’s possible in agribusiness supply chains for customers and partners around the world.

We’ve grown to $8 billion in sales by providing reliable and diverse supply chain solutions for end users and suppliers of grainfood ingredients, animal feed ingredients and pet food ingredients, with our networks and innovations in international trade and transportation.

Our more than 1,400 employees operate from over 100 offices, grain elevators and processing facilities in North America and Asia. No matter where we work, everyone at Scoular is committed to innovation and integrity in the business of buying, selling, storing, handling, processing and transporting grain and ingredients.

Important dates in our history

2016

Illinois facility grows

Our Andres, Illinois, facility boosts operations with the addition of a state-of-the-art non-GMO cleaning plant, on-site grain lab to test purity, and a protein, oil, fiber, sugar and semi-automated bagging line, among other features.

2015

Global capabilities expand

Through acquisition, we offer new capabilities as a global merchandiser and process for special crops, pulses and associated specialty food ingredients. We also are named Shipper of the Year by the Virginia Port Authority.

2012

Modern-day President & Chairman of the Board elected

David Faith is elected as Scoular’s President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. 

2011

Success is recognized

Forbes Magazine names us to its list of Largest Private Companies, jumping in rank from 105th in 2010 to 63rd in 2011. Since then, we remain in the top 100 ranking, moving slightly up or down depending on the year.

2005

Enter river transportation and renewable fuels

We purchase our first river terminal and enter the renewable fuels market as an investor, lead developer and service provider.

1998

New business units

Following the acquisition of the trading businesses of International Proteins Corporation of St. Paul, Minnesota, we begin trading food and pet food ingredients.

1994

Early clean label solutions

We begin trading identity-preserved (IP) grain and soybeans and receive our organic certification.

1990

Entering the feed market

For the first time, we start marketing feed ingredients and byproducts.

1987

Business priorities shift

Reorganization initiates a major corporate shift away from grain warehousing to merchandising and distribution.

1983

The Scoular Foundation established

Driven by our founders’ commitment to support the communities where our employees and customers live and work, The Scoular Foundation is established.

1967-1985

Elevator numbers go up

After acquiring several terminal and country elevators, we increase our footprint to 20 elevators by 1975, 38 by 1980 and 72 locations in eight states by 1985.

Modern-day founders acquire Scoular

A group of grain industry executives headed by Marshall Faith, Scoular’s former CEO and Chairman (and now Chairman Emeritus), buys Scoular Grain & Lumber Company.

1892

Our story begins

George Scoular founds Scoular Grain & Lumber Company in Superior, Nebraska.
