OMAHA, NE (June 30, 2015) – In recognition of The Scoular Company’s strong commitment to Virginia agricultural producers, The Port of Virginia named the company Shipper of the Year at the Virginia Maritime Association’s annual symposium. Scoular’s efforts in assisting the Port’s growth, both commercially and operationally, were acknowledged.
“The Scoular Company is honored to receive this award,” said John Messerich, Scoular’s Senior Vice President. “Our collaborative partnership with the Port has created innovative solutions that are allowing us to make investments in agricultural export container-loading facilities that serve the increasing food and feed demand in Asia.
“Our container-loading activity provides a competitive outlet for Virginia-area farmers and ingredients producers to gain access to international markets. We look forward to increasing our activity with The Port of Virginia in the years to come.”
Doug Grennan, Scoular’s Director who oversees the company’s trading activity in the area noted that Scoular began operations in Virginia nearly 10 years ago and has steadily grown both its grain elevator footprint and the number of producers it serves. “We intend to continue providing more access to domestic and international markets for area producers by expanding our facility network in and around the State of Virginia.”
The Governor of the State of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, has challenged the agricultural community to help make Virginia the number one exporter of agricultural goods on the East Coast. “Scoular is excited to help contribute to the achievement of that goal,” Grennan added.
